Mr. P Lick Mug

Mr. P Lick MugEvery morning when it's time to pick out my coffee mug, I have to decide what kind of day I'm going to have. Am I tired? Let's go for the big alien mug my parents bought for me in Roswell. Do I need a vacation? Let's go with the Mystic, CT, mug. Does it feel like it's going to be a fun day? Let's choose Mr. P here.

Designed by a company called propaganda, the mug is sold by shopmodi.com, based here in NY. I know that I'm going to try to wipe off that coffee drip a hundred times, but that's part of the fun. I have a green tea mug with a crazily realistic tea bag painted on the inside, and it took me forever to remember that it wasn't real. I can be a little slow in the morning...but it's good to laugh at yourself now and then ^_^

Elliot Necklace

Elliot NecklaceI'm a sucker for cute little creatures, but as I'm getting older, I've started leaning toward slightly more sophisticated versions of cute little creatures. What I love about this necklace is that the artist has somehow managed to create something that can be worn in a completely casual or uncasual way...that's not an easy thing to do. It's cute without being cutesy.

Made by a company called Figs and Ginger, it's available in two versions—Dark Patina and Brushed Silver. And part of what encouraged me to include the Elliot Necklace on apostrophe is that Figs and Ginger is trying to be as earth friendly as they can. All the silver and gold they use has been either recycled or reclaimed, they're "using earth friendly jewelry tools & products," they recycle, all their literature is printed on recycled paper with soy ink, etc. You get the picture. If only everyone were so good about these things.

Kuchengnomen

KuchengnomenI don't normally encourage random knick-knacks, but as you see by their description, these little people are more than just plain clutter. Although gnomes are often relegated to the garden and better known for causing trouble, this fine looking couple prefers to be left in the kitchen where they're "exceptional at warding off the mess-makers." And who couldn't use a little help with that?

The Kuchengnomen are made by a group of designers in Redhook, Brooklyn (not too far from me, actually) who started a company called cake decor, and they're available in white, silver (pictured), gold, or painted.

Old School Tape

Old School Tape DispenserOkay, this is just funny. I personally have a cute little snail sitting on my desk, but if anything were to ever happen to Speedy, I'd seriously think about getting this. I have to admit that it's a little pricey ($25), but sometimes during the work day you need something that'll make you smile.

You can get it with either a red or green label, and while I found this on the manufacturer's English site, there seem to be a bunch of U.S.-based stores that have it as well. If you don't want to order it directly from j-me, just Google "Cassette Tape Dispenser" and you'll see a ton of listings for it.

Fun Recipe Cards

Owl Recipe CardsI've managed to collect a ton of recipes over the years (some from my mom, some from my grandma, and a million from magazines), but it's always so hard to find the one I'm looking for. Why? Because they're completely unorganized and stuffed in a wooden recipe box. If only I had something cute to write them on.... I thought about making my own recipe cards, but when I was looking around online for some ideas, I ran across these instead.

They come in sets of 10, and if you poke around on the designer's site, you'll also see some squirrel/bunny and cat recipe cards. Actually, http://www.boygirlparty.com has a lot of pretty cool stuff—everything from stationery to t-shirts to magnets to prints.

Now, if only I could get someone to fill out the recipe cards for me...
