Apostrophe

The Flirty Salad

Flirty Salad ApronThere's something very cute about this apron. Between the funky colors, green tie, and "Flirty Salad" pocket, I think you'd be hard-pressed to find someone who doesn't smile when they see this. Sure, an apron is suppose to be functional, but who says it can't be fun at the same time? The little details on this are great, too—the patterns on the salad leaves, tie, and piping are perfect, and the little face drawn on the salad bowl is adorable.

Sold on an artist's shop called snappyshop on Etsy, there are actually several different designs to choose from. I liked the salad one, but there's also an owl, some bacon and eggs, a coffee pot and cup, a chicken, and others. One for every personality :-) Oh, and in case you're wondering, the designer says that all the aprons are really sturdy and that they'll hold up in the wash...and if you're as clumsy as I am, that's pretty important...

Telegram Stationery

Telegram StationeryI love the idea of writing to people on fancy stationery, but it seems like email and phone calls are just so much easier. Whenever I actually do sit down to send an old-fashioned, hand-written letter, though, having some cool paper always makes it that much more special. There are tons of fun pieces out there, and the telegram stationery designed by 16 Sparrows is one of them.

16 Sparrows is based out of Chicago, and although I can't say with 100% confidence that these are printed on recycled paper, their website does say that "we are now printing most of our cards on recycled paper with soy-based inks." I'm sure that you could email to find out.

I wish that I had a clearer photo to post, but if you click on the image, you'll see all the great detail they put into these. I have a feeling that these are just as fun to get as they are to send.

Mr. P Lick Mug

Mr. P Lick MugEvery morning when it's time to pick out my coffee mug, I have to decide what kind of day I'm going to have. Am I tired? Let's go for the big alien mug my parents bought for me in Roswell. Do I need a vacation? Let's go with the Mystic, CT, mug. Does it feel like it's going to be a fun day? Let's choose Mr. P here.

Designed by a company called propaganda, the mug is sold by shopmodi.com, based here in NY. I know that I'm going to try to wipe off that coffee drip a hundred times, but that's part of the fun. I have a green tea mug with a crazily realistic tea bag painted on the inside, and it took me forever to remember that it wasn't real. I can be a little slow in the morning...but it's good to laugh at yourself now and then ^_^

Elliot Necklace

Elliot NecklaceI'm a sucker for cute little creatures, but as I'm getting older, I've started leaning toward slightly more sophisticated versions of cute little creatures. What I love about this necklace is that the artist has somehow managed to create something that can be worn in a completely casual or uncasual way...that's not an easy thing to do. It's cute without being cutesy.

Made by a company called Figs and Ginger, it's available in two versions—Dark Patina and Brushed Silver. And part of what encouraged me to include the Elliot Necklace on apostrophe is that Figs and Ginger is trying to be as earth friendly as they can. All the silver and gold they use has been either recycled or reclaimed, they're "using earth friendly jewelry tools & products," they recycle, all their literature is printed on recycled paper with soy ink, etc. You get the picture. If only everyone were so good about these things.

Kuchengnomen

KuchengnomenI don't normally encourage random knick-knacks, but as you see by their description, these little people are more than just plain clutter. Although gnomes are often relegated to the garden and better known for causing trouble, this fine looking couple prefers to be left in the kitchen where they're "exceptional at warding off the mess-makers." And who couldn't use a little help with that?

The Kuchengnomen are made by a group of designers in Redhook, Brooklyn (not too far from me, actually) who started a company called cake decor, and they're available in white, silver (pictured), gold, or painted.
